My Sick Baby

Well it has been awhile since I last blogged. I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas!!
We had a nice Christmas here, it was quiet and wonderful. Well most of it see Jaclyn got sick, very sick. For the last seven weeks or so one of my kids has been sick. They have both had colds and flu's and have past them back and forth. David even had a chest infection at one point. When one of them starts to get better the other one gets sick again and the cycle starts again. Well David is finally healthy again and Jaclyn was starting to get better or so I thought.
On Christmas eve Jaclyn started to show signs of getting sick again. So I made sure she got extra rest in hopes of beating whatever was coming. Then on Christmas day she had less energy and started to get worse. Boxing day she wanted me to hold her all day and she was coughing more. That evening she spent most of the night sleeping in my arms. She was having problems breathing and was coughing more. I think I slept under two hours that night. On Saturday morning I brought her to the clinic and the doctor told me she had a throat infection and the beginnings of a chest infection. He put her on penicillin. This morning I brought her into my doctor and he agreed that she has a throat and chest infection. He also sent her for a chest x-ray. They are now watching her for signs of pneumonia. I should be getting some answers this week. They are also waiting to see how the penicillin helps her. It has been a struggle to get fluids and medicine in her. She doesn't want to drink very much right now or eat anything and she really hates the whole medicine idea.
Over the last few nights I have had Jaclyn sleep in our room. She seems to be the worst at night and I feel better having her close so I can monitor her breathing. Unfortunately I have had very little sleep since Christmas. So I am tired!
On a happier note Jaclyn said "dada" on Christmas eve. And on boxing day she said "mama" which has now turned into "mom". Its really cute when she says "dada" she will look everywhere for Chris and once she sees him she will smile. If I put her down to get something she will follow me crying and saying "mom-mom". She is also trying really hard to walk, well she was before she got sick this week.

Davids New Glasses

Well, David had a big week this past week. I had written a post about how David was going to need glasses. Last Thursday we took David into a specialist to see what his prescription was going to be. The Doctor put eye drops into his eyes to open up his pupils to see deep into his eyes. He discover that David is farsighted, actually he is very farsighted.
Have you ever heard the term coke bottle glasses? Well if they still made lens that thick he would have them. The prescription he was given is called 300+. Which means that he has a really hard time seeing things that are close to him. I am not sure as to how much he can see without his glasses. I think that he can see shapes and colours but most things are blurry to him. It was neat for me to see him interact with his toys after having his glasses. He seemed to be fascinated by little details on the toys. I am excited to see how life will be different for him in the future with the ability to see everything around.
We had the hardest time finding glasses that fit him. He has a small face and needs one of the smallest sizes out there. Most of the frames that we found were pink or purple. After going to four different places we found the pair that we bought. They fit him the best and he didn't try to take them off. Both Chris and I are very happy with how they look on him. Now are challenge will be to convince him to wear them all the time.

I think that he is so cute with his new glasses!

Seattle Trip

For those of you that don't know, Chris took me away last weekend to Seattle. We had a wonderful time away together. Some of the things we did over the weekend were sleep whenever we wanted, some shopping and walking around the downtown area. Chris also brought me a Starbucks breakfast every morning as well as booking me for a in-room massage which was wonderful.
One evening we went to this steak house restaurant which also had a live jazz band. We both love jazz music and it was great to listen to it during an amazing dinner. Between the jazz sets this man came in with a saxophone case and the staff all got excited. During the second music set he came up and played, they introduced him as a big name (I don't remember now) from New York. He was very good and we both really enjoyed listening to him.
This is a chair that was in a corner of our room. I loved this chair it was so comfortable and I spent a lot of time sitting here reading and just enjoying the sights of Seattle.
This is the view out of one of our windows.
This is one of the other windows.
Here is a picture of us before we went out for our fancy dinner.
One of the mornings we went for a walk to Pike Place Market. This market is famous for a few things; one is the fish throwing, which I got to say is neat to see. It is also famous for lots of booths run by hippies.(or at least it should be famous for that) My favourite part of Pike Place Market is that it is the place of the original Starbucks. Of course we had to go there and take some pictures.
Our new mugs for home to remind us of our trip.

November Update

Sorry it has been awhile since I have blogged. We have had a busy November so far. The beginning of the month we had some family visit us for a few days and had a wonderful visit with them!
All four of us have been sick at some point this month. This cold/flu has lasted a long time around here. Jaclyn has been hanging on to the cough for the last two weeks. She has also been teething a lot and is still working on popping a couple of teeth. David was finally getting better. He had a few days where he was feeling good and then on Monday he woke up with a runny nose. Yesterday he developed a cough and only wanted to cuddle with me. Then just before his nap he started to lose his voice and after his nap he felt worse. After taking him to the doctor we found out that he has a chest infection. Luckily I caught it early and he is feeling much better after two doses of his medicine. I am a little concerned about Jaclyn now because her cough changed today. So I will be watching her and if she gets worse I will be taking her to the doctor as well. I am praying that both of my kids get better before the weekend or at least a lot better by Friday.
I have the most wonderful husband! For my birthday this year Chris wanted to do something for me that we are normally unable to do. He gave me a weekend trip away for just the two of us! I was given a few options on the location and I chose to go to Seattle. I have always liked Seattle. Its just one of those places that I enjoy visiting. When we were dating we made day trips there and it will be nice to go there again just the two of us. Chris has been looking into things to do well we are there and he has found a few things that he thinks I will enjoy. He hasn't told me all of his plans but I am sure looking forward to it! One thing I am really looking forward to is sleeping past 6:30am for three days in a row. I have been more tired these days due to my thyroid acting up and I am looking forward to a little more sleep then I usually get.
I am also looking forward to some alone time with my husband! As most of you know over the next two years Chris will be very busy with school for his masters degree. When he isn't in class or studying I expect him to be spending as much time with our kids as possible as well as working a part time job. So this weekend will be a great time for us to be alone together before he goes fully into his studies next month. I am not saying I will not see him once he starts school but I expect our time to be cut with everything else going on in our lives. So as you see I really want my kids to feel better before we leave them for the weekend. They will be in great hands with my brother and sister-in-law and I am not worried about them. I just know that they will all have a better weekend if David and Jaclyn are feeling better. As well as the fact that my kids like most children want their mom when they are sick and I will be in Seattle.
So if you are the praying type, please pray that my kids feel better and that they have a wonderful time with their aunt, uncle and cousin this weekend.
I will try and post some updated pictures of the kids soon as well. They are both growing so fast. David amazes me all the time with how much he is growing into a little boy. He has quite a sense of humor. Jaclyn also amazes me. I call her my little firecracker because she is always going and will have these burst of energy and get into everything she can get her hands on. She also loves to laugh and has started to dance this week. David and Jaclyn love to dance together! Chris and I love to watch them together, they are becoming good little friends!

So Sweet

Today when I was putting David down for his nap. He gave me a hug and started to play with my hair and then he looked up at me with a big smile and said "pretty mommy".
Then he gave me a kiss and went to his bed.
It was very sweet and it put a smile on my face. I love my little boy!

Pumpkin Patch

I Love Fall! I love how the leaves and trees look in the fall. I think that it is a beautiful season.
As a family we are trying to find things that we can do together and if we really enjoy it we will try and do that activity again and again. This year we went to a local pumpkin patch and let David run around. He loved it! He kept saying "pumpkins, more pumpkins". He tried picking them up and if it was to heavy for him to pick up he would try and roll it.
Jaclyn enjoyed it as well. She mostly liked to watch David and every once in awhile he would come over to her and make faces at her so she would smile at him. Then he would be gone to explore the pumpkins again. We had a lot of fun and I think we will try and go to a local pumpkin patch every fall.
Right after this picture was taken he knocked the top pumpkin off!

Teeth and Eyes!

I thought I would give you all an update on David and Jaclyn.
Jaclyn has been teething for the last couple of weeks and on Tuesday she popped her first tooth. I expect more teeth to come in the next few weeks as it seems that she is teething more every day. Jaclyn is also starting to crawl a lot more. David thinks that because she is getting around on her own now and because she likes to stand with my help that she can walk. He holds her hands and wants to walk her around. I explain to him every time that she is too little to walk still so he will hold her hands and dance with her instead. He will hum and rock her back and forth, all the while Jaclyn is smiling up at him. Its pretty cute!
Ever since David was a baby I have watched him and the way he uses his eyes. He used to go cross-eyed as a baby and then randomly as he has grown. I never thought to much about it, I just figured that he might need glasses when he got older like I did. Well over the last two weeks his eyes have gotten worse. What I mean by this is that he will go cross-eyed on and off at different times in the day. Sometimes, when he is doing something, one of his eyes will wounder while the other eye stays in one place. I decided to get him into the optometrist to check out what was happening.
Well, we went and had his eyes tested today. They said that he is farsighted and will need glasses, which was sort of expected. But, that is not all... They are also sending him to a specialist to do more test on his eyes. There could be a problems with some of the muscles around his eyes. The reason he needs a specialist to see him is that normal eye tests don't tend to work at his age. They have to put drops in his eyes to open up his pupil to do those tests. The doctor that I saw today told me that he is following a pattern of having a muscle that is unable to keep up with the eyes and what they are trying to do. To fix this problem they usually have to do a surgery to correct the muscle in the eyes. He would still need to wear glasses after that for his far-sightedness but that would be it.
For now, we don't know if he has this muscle problem or if he has to have surgery on his eyes. All we know is that he needs glasses and until we see the specialist we are not sure as to how strong of a prescription he will need or if he needs surgery. I have an appointment for him in the beginning of December and we will go from there.
On a lighter note with all of this, Chris and I have talked about the fact that David will look very cute in glasses and that he will most likely like to wear them because I wear glasses. He is always trying to put on my glasses and pretend he is like me. We are hoping he still likes the idea of wearing glasses when we get some for him!

Here is a picture of his eyes this week.

My Amazing Girl

Jaclyn is one strong little girl. She will often do push-ups well baby style push-ups.
Most children her age get up on their hands and knees. Jaclyn however gets up on her hands and toes. She has been doing this now for awhile. Over the last few weeks she has been able to hold herself up for over a minute at a time. She does get on her knees as well but I think she prefers to be on her toes!

Also she weighs 19lbs now at 7 months.
Side note David weighed 19lbs at 10 months.

Yesterday we went to the Aquarium with some friends Amy and Jared and their beautiful son Silas. They came out from Prince George to visit there family for Thanksgiving and we met them at the Aquarium on Monday . After walking around for the morning they came back to our house. Travis, Rosie and their son Spencer came over as well and we all visited over tea and cookies. Both of these couple are people that Chris went to collage with and I met after they were all done at CBC. Chris has kept in contact with a lot of people from his CBC days and most of them are married with children all over Canada. I have met only a few in person and more via the blogging world or facebook. I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone that Chris knew at CBC both in person and over the computer. Chris and I have talked about how I talk the people from his CBC days more then he does now. Its funny how life goes!
Anyways back to the Aquarium David had such a great time there. He wanted to climb into all the tanks with the fish. At one point when we was looking at the beluga's outside he tried to get his leg over the side to go swimming with them. It was pretty cute. Chris was a little more careful after that when looking over the tanks with David. Jaclyn seemed to enjoy watching the bright coloured fish swimming. I am looking forward to taking her there again when she is older and can enjoy it more.

I hope that everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

Lunch Time

The other day I let David feed Jaclyn her bottle. Every time she would have milk dripping down her face he would take the bottle away and wipe her mouth it was really funny!!

Early Morning

Once upon a time David slept until 8am.................................that seems so long ago now! David now wakes up between 6:30-7am, for awhile it was 6am. I have gotten use to the earlier wake ups but I find that David does better during the day when he sleeps until at least 7am (and so do I). When David wakes up before 7am he is not aloud out of his bed until then. I have to say though this has been a bit of a challenge for me, I don't mind cuddling with him until such time but I don't find his bed comfortable so I have brought him into our bed lately. Jaclyn wakes up most mornings between 7:30-8:00am I really appreciate that time.
However this morning Jaclyn woke up before 6am and David was not far behind her. So this morning I have a house full of tired people. Jaclyn went down for her morning nap early today and David is all about cuddling with me. As for myself I had my first cup of tea today before 7:00am. I think I will go make myself another one now.
Here are some pictures of the kids this morning. And yes David is wearing pink socks he wanted to wear his sisters socks this morning, he is a strange boy sometimes!

Fat Lips

In my son's short but very full life he has managed to give me different injuries. None of them have been bad or on purpose. David just has so much enthusiasm that he puts his whole body into whatever he is doing.
For example I just put him down for a nap and he gave me a kiss and then started to give me more kisses. It then turned into a little game. Then it happened............he kissed me with his teeth. He didn't bite me, he was smiling and kissed with his teeth. Well you guessed it he split my top lip. After we collided he said "mommy owie , David teeth owie". Then he wanted a hug and to go to bed. As I sit here with my lip getting fatter I think about how life has been with a little boy. He has given my more fat lips then I can count and one broken nose (last Christmas) .
At this stage in life I am glad that I am the one who is getting hurt and not him. In a few years when he is braking bones or falling off his bike (I am almost positive that he will be one of those boys) I will be wishing we were back here and he was giving me fat lips.
Life with a boy will definitely keep me busy, but I am enjoying every bit of it.........fat lip and all!

Last Weekend

Last weekend we went on a family camp with our church. Here are some pictures from it. It was a wet and windy weekend but we had lots of fun. The kids stayed warm in our double stroller and weren't fazed by the weather. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of then in the time!
