The Last 18 Days.............

The last 18 days David has been sick...........yes 18 days. It started off with a cold then he developed a cough which turned into a bronchitis then he got the flu (on top of bronchitis) Now like most people when they are sick David want me (his mom) which is ok. This just means that my house is getting messy and I am not getting very much done. Now in the beginning of this past 18 days he was still taking all of his naps in his bed. Now however he is waking up about 20-30 minutes into them screaming then as soon as I go in there and pick him up he falls asleep almost instantly. This happens anywhere from 1-4 times and then he will finally sleep through on his own. David will sometimes have a whole nap on me (I just want him to sleep) Also at night he wakes up now 3-4 times only for a bit, but for me this is weird because he has been sleeping through the night for a while now. On top of all this Chris is gone until Monday night at a Youth Conference in Calgary.

Well I am going to go and have a cup of tea in my messy living room :)

Father and Son

Well this entry is all about father and son and there relationship.
Chris loves taking self-portraits and this is the first of many I am sure of them.

David had his first shower the other day. He joined his dad; at first David did not like the water beating on him. But the whole time David hung on tight to Chris as they cleaned up together.

Chris and David love to play together, when they play no matter what mood David is in Chris can get him laughing. They are so much fun to watch. I am excited to watch their relationship grow over the next few years.

So I was trying to get a picture of David lounging on his daddy, but it seems that every picture he closed his eyes. Now it looks like he is passed out and we are propping him up like a doll or something, although the smile on one picture does let you know he is a bit of a fake. Oh well they are still cute pictures.

And now for an update on David. He sits on his own and as I wrote in the last blog he has two teeth and his third tooth is on its way in. He loves everything about his toes, as you can see in these pictures as he is rubbing his toes together, we have more pictures where he is sucking them. We never knew that toes could be so fascinating, but then again, we are fairly used to having them...

David has also found his voice, now he has been doing the baby talk thing for a while now but he is getting much better at control as he moves his mouth to make different sounds, not to mention adding a whole new area of high pitches (and I mean high). He will just sit and talk for a long time now, most of it being high enough to be understood by dolphins and other marine animals. It has really been interesting watching him as he surprises himself by his noises.

A new growth spurt is on the way, which means it is yet again time to say goodbye to some of our favorite outfits that are now sadly too small for him. It's amazing how fast he goes through it. It will be nice when he will stay in the same size for at least half a year. Oh well, on the plus side, there are a bunch of new hand me downs for us to go through...So goes the life of parents.


Oh, and we are going to start throwing more pictures on to our flickr account, so for those of you who have been frustrated that there has been nothing new for a while, good news.

He Has Teeth

Well David is really growing up these days. After three months of teething he has finally had a tooth broken through. On Saturday his first tooth came in and then today his second tooth came in. I think that David is feeling a little better now that they have broken through. One thing I find kind of funny is that David doesn't really like teething toys, he prefers to chew on blankets. He will put it in his mouth and then pull it out with his jaw locked on it. It looks kinda funny but it seems to help him.

David also started to sit up on his own without supports about a week ago, he has been sitting for a long time now but usually with pillows around him. He really is fun to watch as he discovers himself and his personality.

A Special Friend

So we noticed over the last few months that there are certain people that David really likes. There are a few people that David is fond of, always staring at them, reaching for them, that sort of thing. But no one holds a candle to Jenna. Born on the same day, they met when each was less than 24 hours old. I don't know if that is the reason, or if it is something more, but David has a bit of a fixation on Jenna. It really became obvious in the last few weeks, as David started sucking Jenna's toes and fingers. Now, David doesn't do the toe thing with anyone else, this is rather special.
He also enjoys being very close with Jenna, and cuddles up every chance he gets. Young love is a precious thing, albeit a bit weird at this age, but still very cute.
It will be very fun to watch these two grow up together. Now I should add that Jenna also likes to be with David, there have been times that Jenna has started to suck on his fingers and then realize that they are not hers. They sure are fun to watch.

This evening we gave David a bath and took some pictures. David moved out of the baby bath to the regular bath a few weeks ago now, but tonight he started to have fun and play in it. We just thought that we would share some of the photos with you all. Enjoy!

Ringing in the New Year

Well this was our first Christmas and New Years with David. It was a lot of fun making new traditions with David. He wasn't to sure about what Christmas presents were or what we were doing. We gave him a floor gym (a mat that has toys hanging over it) for David to play with. This is one of his new favorite toys, when we pull it out for him he gets a big smile and starts leaning towards it. He also enjoys his Baby Einstein movies and sometimes he will watch them well playing on his floor gym.

On New years David's schedule was off for most of the day so instead of him going to bed at 10:30pm he was in bed at 11:45pm. (we think he wanted to be involved with the celebrations of 2007) We had some friends over for the evening and played games and had a wonderful time bringing in the new year with friends. By the end of the night we were all falling asleep. Apparently once you have kids it is harder to stay up. (and Chris says we are getting old)

Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year

Hey everyone, sorry that we have been a bit busy lately and haven't been updating our blog for a bit. We have been a little sick, with at least one of us in the house sick at any given time for over a month now. It looks like we are through most of it now, so hopefully we can get back to normal a bit.

David is growing so fast still. It's kind of alarming, especially when you think about the fact that it is only going to be faster in the future. he is now fairly cognisant of the fact that he actually controls his own body, meaning among other things that we have a constant need to pick toys up that he throws out of the stroller when we aren't looking. So far, we haven't lost any of them, but I don't think the streak will stay alive to much longer.

We thought you would like to see David in his festive attire, he is modeling a hand made touque and a santa's little helper shirt. As much as we are not going to go into the whole santa thing much with David, we did think the shirt was cute, as well as free since it was a hand me down...so why not. Anyway, we will try to post a little something of Christmas day.

Four and Fourteen

Well David is now just over four months old and yesterday I had him weighed and he is also just over fourteen pounds. Its crazy looking back at the last four months, it has been fun and life changing all at the same time. We wouldn't change any of it. Chris and I can hardly remember what life was like before David. Nor would we ever want to go back.

It has been a lot of fun these past few weeks as David has become even more active. From him being able to roll over (see last blog) to enjoying his toys more, giggling and talking (baby noises) with us more. He has also perfected the "rock on" gesture as you can see in this picture.

Four and Fourteen

New stuff all over

This past week has been a week of discovery and firsts for David. Last weekend David giggled, now he has been making different noises for awhile, but he giggled a real giggle. The best part about it is that both Chris and I were with him when he did it the first time. Which I have to say was very cool, Chris really wanted to be there for it. I am very glad that David waited until then.
David has also been learning over the last few weeks to use his hands better. He likes to just stare at them as he moves them around, he is also interacting with his toys a lot more which is also a lot of fun to watch.
And the last piece of news about David is that he started to roll over on Tuesday. The first time he did, he was in his bed for his nap (he sleeps on his stomach) I went in to check on him and he was on his back. I was so surprised and excited I put him on his stomach to see if he would do it again and he did. And now when we play on the floor he is enjoying the fact that he can decide how he is lying. Chris and I are very excited about this. In fact just the night before Chris said to me that he was wondering when David would start to roll, and now he is.

Anyways we are both very excited and wanted to share this with you all. Here is a video of him rolling over if you want to see for yourself, you just have to be patient at first, since he doesn't seem to want to roll right away.

So we have discovered a little bit of what things will be like in the future. People always say that a child will mimic the ways of his/her parents when they are older, but we have realized that it starts pretty early. This particular shot is of David copying his Mom when she was sticking her tongue out, which we found to be quite adorable (at least when David does it, maybe not when some others might). But it's not just that sort of thing. David has been developing other manerisms from us too. He has got a great smirk going a lot of times that I think he probably got from me. As well, much of his noises are somewhat similar to how Katherine Talks to him (thankfully not "babytalk-ish"), and he winks sometimes, which we are not sure is on purpose but is still increadibly cute. The whole copying thing just makes it that much more fun to play with David.

Big Boy Bed

Yes, after some 3 and a half months, David has graduated to the next level of sleep comfort, the crib. Now it's not technicaly a "big boy bed" but it seems that way to us. He has his lion to either keep him safe or if he is biblically minded, to remind him that God can protect him from the lions just like Daniel. The second option is a bit of a stretch, but I found it fun, so on the blog it goes. Since we haven't been bloggin' much lately, we will probably throw a few more blogs on in the next few days. Oh yeah, and we are filling up our quota on Flickr, so that should be updated soon as well. Worth a gander, in my opinion.

Big Boy Bed

Am I Cute or What?

So David is 11 and a half weeks now and is becoming more interactive with both the camera and the people around him. Actually David is becoming a bit of a flirt, he loves to smile and make noises for us as his parents but also for others around him. The other day I was talking to some teenagers at our church and they started to talk to David and he just looked up at them and started to flirt (by this I mean smile) at them it was very cute. They teens thought it was fun too.

When we take out the camera to take pictures of him he turns right towards it and starts to smile and make faces at it. This of course encourages us to take more pictures of him.

David is growing so much that I have again in the last few days gone through his clothes to pull out some more things that he can fit. I think that he will be better dressed then both of us some days. But that's the way it is you spend more time on your childrens clothes then your own. Or at least that's the way it seems.

Am I Cute or What?

Baby Long Underwear

So, the weather has been getting colder here in Kamloops lately, which is cool because we have these nifty outfits for David. Yes, it is Baby Long-underwear!!! We have this set on loan from friends, but I think we are going to have to make sure he has a few pairs of his own, because he is incredibly cute in them. He looks like he passed out after a hard day of skiing or something, which I hope you are trying to imagine seeing in your head right now, because my mental image of it is pretty funny. (Since he can only hold his head up for a few minutes at a time, not even getting into the fact that he can't stand up and has, to my knowledge, never seen a pair of skis) All the same, he is really cute and we thought we would share the sight with whoever actually reads this blog.

P.S. He is getting so big, if you look on our flikr pics from when he was first born to now, it's crazy. (for those who are interested, as of our last check up from a week ago, he had grown 3 and a half inches already, and gained about 4 pounds)

What are you Doing?

I thought that this was a cute picture of David. You see ever since David was born (and I mean minutes after he was born) he has had a camera in his face. Chris and I love to take pictures of him, we now have over 400 pictures and he is just over 10 weeks old. Due to this he is becoming an old pro for pictures time.
The other day I was taking some pictures of him holding up his head when he brought his head down he got close enough to look right at the camera. It was very cute, and I had to share it with you.

What are you Doing?

A nice first

This actually happened a few weeks ago, but I thought I would just talk briefly about it. I got to feed David for the first time a little while back. We decided to wait for the first six weeks before we would introduce a bottle. We want David to be able to take a bottle once in a while. That way it gives us (and especially Katherine) a bit more freedom to go out.

It was really cool just to have that time with David, and I love to do it when the opportunity arises. It is evident that he still prefers to have the real thing, which is probably a good thing, but after a little bit of confusion he gets right at it. I am glad it isn't the only way we are doing things, as the whole process from pumping till he gets it is much more time consuming and labor intensive, but it's a great Dad time with my boy.

A nice first

Giving a shout out to all my hommies

Life around here is never boring around here. Looking back at our schedule, we have things going on pretty much every day. This isn't as big a deal when it was just Katherine and I, but now that David is here, we have realized we need to slow things down a bit. In our week, there is few days where he can just stay home all day long. So we are trying to figure out how to reschedule and cut a few things out so that we can maintain a life and have David be able to have a bit more consistency.

On the plus side, David is doing very well and is always ready to roll with things. As a PK, life is going to always have a bit of Chaos to it. It's amazing how well he does going through the gauntlet of admirers at church, or sleeping through rowdiness at youth nights. I am very glad that we started from the begginning by teaching David to sleep through noise.

He has continued to be a quick learner in many ways. As you can see from this picture, he is holding his head up quite well. He sometimes does it for an amazingly long time, especially if he is not wanting to fall asleep at nap time. One of the most appreciated things he has picked up is how to sleep through the night most of the time. He averages out at between 7 and 8 hours at night, which I can tell you is very nice, especially since he is only 9 weeks old. He is starting to move around a lot more in his "tummy time" and can throw himself around pretty well. Somehow, he will unwrap himself completely for some of his naps. Which is pretty amazing, since he is wraped pretty tight when you leave him, and then you pop in to check on him, and he is peacefully lying on top of his blankets. As winter approaches, we will have to make sure this habbit doesn't get him to cold.

Giving a shout out to all my hommies

2 Months already

Time is a funny thing. When I think back, it both seems like it was yesterday that David was born, but at the same time it's hard to think of a time without him. It's now two months ago that we first met this precious little boy, and we are more in love with him now then ever.

He is already got a great personality and he is learning about his environment and how his arms are actually his to control and all that other cool stuff. He is also showing his smile even more often, which melts my heart every time he does it. It's probably every couple of minutes that either Katherine calls me over or I call her over to see what David is doing because he is being so cute, or funny, or wierd.

It's neat when someone comes into your life that ends up making the world around you a better, more vibrant place to be. David, thanks for coming into this world. You are truly a gift from God and we love you very much.

2 Months already

Boy in the Hood

Ahh, sweet movie refrences for titles. I would feel worse about doing it, but I am not exactly the only one who enjoys doing it, which makes me feel that even if I am lame, at least I am in good company. The alternative title name was "Mamma said knock you out" but I figured I might catch a few more people with the first.

Anyway, life has been crazy for all of us lately. We have had more company, including a great grandparent, a great uncle and aunt (and I am not refering just to quality, but to relation), as well as his Aunt back from London, the jet setter (my sister). As well, David has survived his second and final baby shower. He is actually quite good with being passed around, which is good considering he is a PK and that is just going to happen anyway.

He has been growing like crazy lately, which among other things means that he fits into some really cute outfits that he has been given. It's been really cool to start putting him in real clothes, and he is insanely cute in them. Just wait until you see some of the pics that we will slowly dole out on Flikr and on the blog. The sad thing is that on some of the clothes we have been given at the baby showerrs, we have to wait a year or two (or 4 in one case) before he can fit them.

Hmm, what else....oh, in case you didn't know, David has been awarded the "cutest baby in the world" award. As his Parents, we are of course, very proud. He seems to be taking the title well, and hasn't yet got a big head about the whole thing, which is good.

The Little Butthead Won't Sleep!

Now I say butthead out of Love. You see David has decided in the last few days to stay awake for one of his naptime. Sometimes he will fall asleep just before his next feed but not all the time. He is usually a happy baby during this time. He will sit in his chair and make faces, lay in his bed well I clean his room or we will play together and now he is making different noises as well. It is really cute. I feel bad for him though because by the time he goes down for his next nap he has the biggest bags under his eyes, but it is his own fault (well maybe a little of ours he did inherit both our stubbornness). Poor kid he just doesn't want to miss anything.
Well I should go it is almost time for his next feed and I can hear him in his room.......not wanting to sleep again.
